Registered Massage Therapy (RMT) Services

All massage therapy treatments at our clinic are performed by Registered Massage Therapists (RMTs) regulated under the CCHPBC. We provide safe, evidence-based care tailored to your individual health history.

To ensure your safety, please review the specific precautions and contraindications associated with each specialized modality.

1. General RMT Massage

A comprehensive therapeutic or relaxation treatment focusing on the manipulation of soft tissues to reduce muscle tension, alleviate chronic pain, improve joint mobility, and enhance overall systemic function.

Primary Precautions & Contraindications:

  • Acute systemic infections, fever, or contagious skin conditions.
  • Uncontrolled high blood pressure or severe cardiovascular disease.
  • Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) or active blood clots.
  • Recent surgeries, acute fractures, or open wounds; local avoidance is required.

2. Hot Stone Massage

This treatment integrates smoothly polished, heated basalt stones into the massage. The deep, radiating heat melts away muscle rigidity, expands blood vessels, and profoundly calms the nervous system.

Primary Precautions & Contraindications:

  • Heat Sensitivity: Any condition that alters nerve sensation, such as advanced diabetes or neuropathy, or makes you highly sensitive to heat.
  • Inflammatory Flares: Acute rheumatoid arthritis, acute joint inflammation, or severe sunburns.
  • Skin & Vascular Integrity: Severe varicose veins, thinning or fragile skin, and active skin rashes.
  • Cardiovascular Strain: Heart disease, dynamic circulatory issues, or if you are currently pregnant. Please see the prenatal section.

3. Tool-Assisted Massage

Instrument-Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization

Utilizing specialized, ergonomic hand tools, this modality allows the RMT to precisely locate and effectively break down dense scar tissue, myofascial adhesions, and chronic restrictions in the muscles and tendons.

Primary Precautions & Contraindications:

  • Skin & Tissue Fragility: Open wounds, unhealed surgical incisions, active skin infections, or exceptionally thin or bruise-prone skin.
  • Medical Management: Patients currently taking prescription blood thinners, also known as anticoagulants.
  • Structural Risks: Active fractures, localized osteomyelitis, or directly over unhealed bone interfaces.
  • Vascular & Growths: Directly over varicose veins, aneurysms, or known tumors.

4. Fascial Release

Myofascial Release

A specialized, hands-on technique that applies sustained, gentle pressure into myofascial connective tissue restrictions. This slower approach elongates the fascial network, restores fluid dynamics, and eliminates pain caused by structural misalignment.

Primary Precautions & Contraindications:

  • Acute Tissue Injury: Healing fractures, severe local hematomas, or acute muscle or ligament tears.
  • Systemic Conditions: Advanced osteoporosis or brittle bone disease; extreme modification is required.
  • Vascular Concerns: Active deep vein thrombosis, severe circulatory insufficiency, or localized aneurysms.
  • Malignancy: Direct pressure over active tumors or open skin lesions is strictly avoided.

5. Prenatal Massage

Tailored specifically for expectant mothers, this nurturing treatment addresses the unique physical stressors of pregnancy, such as lower back strain, pelvic pressure, shifting posture, and swelling, using safe, supportive side-lying positioning.

Primary Precautions & Contraindications:

  • High-Risk Pregnancy: Written medical clearance from your obstetrician or midwife is required if you are experiencing preeclampsia, gestational diabetes, or a history of premature labor.
  • Modality Restrictions: Hot Stone treatments are entirely contraindicated during pregnancy due to the risk of altering core body temperature.
  • Local Inclusions: Direct, deep abdominal massage is strictly avoided; light, soothing touch is used exclusively if requested.
  • Vascular Safety: Extreme caution and light pressure are maintained on the lower extremities due to increased risks of blood clots (DVT) during pregnancy.
